Be prepared.
Life has a lot of ups and downs. And I have definitely had more than my share of disappointments. I always come prepared with plans for the various ways that I see things going. If this fails, then x. If it works, then y.
I have found a lot of comfort in being aware of possibilities of what may happen next. Whether to protect myself or not, I really want to be flexible enough to go with whatever life throws at me.
It is a comfort to have a plan for most anything when I do something. It makes bad news and unfulfilled dreams easier to deal with in the short and long term. Having secondary or tertiary paths already lined up has kept me from a lot of heartbreak and allowed me to still help others reach their goals.
I do not go into anything blindly. I look at the pros and cons. Then I consider the various outcomes. From there, I come up with a plan of next steps. It helps me overcome my anxiety and I feel better prepared to handle anything.
