There are a lot of artists that I follow who make prints or stickers of their artwork (depending on the type of art they do). I love this idea so much more than taking commissions because they are making what they want to make and not burning themselves out trying to please people who want to pay little for something so specific. I love it when an artist is able to do commission work the way they want to and set their prices accordingly, but I am just as happy to buy things based off their own personal work.
I am currently trying to make a side hustle out of my lifelong dream of writing. it has been a fun experience. I am building up a body of work as I typically write shorter forms, but I do have a self published novel out. A lot of people want to know what to write in order to make money but as it is a side hustle I am writing what I want and seeing if I can make some extra income on it. It has been exciting.
I think that if you are going to be putting your spare time into something that you hope will be successful that it is something you love. I hate seeing artists and writers doing things they do not want to do trying to make money. A side hustle should be a passion project because hopefully your job is paying the bills. Nobody should have to work more than full time at their job in order to pay their bills and support their families.
Side hustles should be considered something extra a person gets to do and not something they need to live. That is not a side hustle if it is necessary to take care of themselves or their family. That is work. Side hustles should be doing the things you enjoy and hopefully one day you can be successful doing that instead of your job to pay the bills. That is the dream that got perverted somewhere down the line. Side hustles should be extra not necessary.
