I am not a big fan of exercise, but there are a few exercises I enjoy doing. Arm curls are easy. I typically do them when I am wandering around the kitchen. You can use cans, jars, or bottles as weights and do a few as you wait for something to cook or while putting groceries away. Also a great way to kill time when stuck on hold.
When I had the piriformis issue, I really liked the figure four stretch. You lie on your back with knees bent, you put your ankle on the opposite knee and pull the thigh toward your chest. It is such a nice stretch, even when I am not having issues.
During that bout of physical therapy, I started doing glute bridges. You lay on the floor with knees bent and lift your butt to form a bridge. When You get better at it, you start lifting with only one leg.
Toe touches are another favorite. I do not do them as often as I should, but I always appreciate the feeling afterward. It is nice to loosen up the muscles. Even if you cannot reach your toes, trying to still feels good and the more you do it, the close your will get over time.
To finish this off I will suggest good ol’ push-ups and curl-ups. Simple and classic.
