The longest trips I have taken were a couple of two week long road trips. One from our home to my in-laws which is a twenty hour drive and one to visit the bulk of my partner’s family which was twenty four hours away. It took a few days to get there, a few days to visit, a few days to actually do some sightseeing, and a few days to get back.
One was only going south and the other was going nearly across the country. Absolutely silly on paper to have the trips take nearly the same amount of time, but I suppose that is to be expected for more traffic heavy areas versus fly over country.
I definitely enjoyed the cross country drive more. It was weird moving through all the different biomes. Definitely more interesting than being in traffic most of the way. We tried to take the more scenic routes without adding too much more for additional time.
Cross country also meant a lot of national parks, like Yellowstone, Badlands, Zion, Arches, Grand Canyon, and more. Each time we go, I try to hit up new ones. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park was amazing. We saw so many animals and it was such a diverse park for being so small.
