I received a phone call on my work phone from a debt collector investigator. I had no outstanding debt and was confused about what was going on. He went through my information and it turns out that there was another person born on the same day in the same state with almost an identical name. We had different middle names. For years, I never knew this person existed though I would occasionally get weird messages on my phone and chalked it up to spam calling. Turns out my financial doppelganger was racking up debt everywhere she went.
People always want to know why I changed my last name when I married. It was to further differentiate myself from that person. Since a year after the name change I stopped receiving debt calls. After not hearing any more, I did a Google search and she was still alive. So changing my name did the trick. Or she happened to pay her debt off at around the same time I was married. I assume after nearly half a decade of phone harassment that the name change is what fixed it.
We also used the same store pharmacy and things would get weird sometimes with that. No weirdness after the name change!
