If you could erase one event from history, what would it be?

This one is difficult because obviously stopping any number of genocides would be the obvious choices. If this was a time changing movie or television show, then something even worse could happen and that is pretty frightening. Things always seem to get worse. And what is to say that lessons were not learned from one tragedy that then prevented another tragedy. Like everyone says the obvious choice is to go back and kill baby Hitler. But he was only one man, would someone else not take his place if he was missing from the timeline? Someone that could have been even more heinous and successful.

It is a lot to think about especially from such a removed position. I did not live through it. It was decades before I was born. I could see how lots of things could have happened differently or perhaps how they may have stayed the same. People will always scapegoat other people. It is absolutely disgusting and I wish I could make it so it never happened for any of the genocide victims around the planet.

History teaches us how evil humans can be given the opportunity. Not even the people who did the act but the people who standby and let it happen. It is a lesson we all need to remember when we try and think we are better than other people. We are only as strong as our weakest members, and the human race is fairly weak in that respect.

I was in high school when 9/11 happened. It has affected so many aspects of my life since then because of the politics that went crazy after. It was kind of the beginning of the end. We began aggressively taking away certain groups’ freedoms and now we have the mess of today. I feel like that event not happening would have completely changed the last twenty plus years in America. It is constantly used to prop up ridiculous policies and nationalism.

I would also like to see COVID not happen when it did. If we had different policies and objectives in place at the time it started. We may have been better off. It is something I will never know. Currently we are not trying to prevent another one from happening so we did not learn anything from it. We will all pay for it someday. I think when it happens, people will wish they could erase a lot of events from our present time.
