I certainly do not deal with it well at first. Then I strap in and figure out possible courses of action. I like to have several plans for various outcomes. It is extremely needed when my children are involved because they themselves never know how they are going to react to anything. As their parent, you have to be ready for any outcome, any eventuality. Their first reaction is usually not graceful or how they really feel. They have to get through that first instinctual reaction.

For other things in life, I like to have an idea of what the results might be and then I can think over what is happening. Currently my partner is waiting to hear back about moving to a new job position at work. He wants to go to a certain place, but he has not heard back yet about that option. If that falls through, then he will be moving to an entirely different area doing different work than he is now. He will even have a completely different schedule. He is not handling the uncertainty well and I keep telling him that whatever happens we will make it work. It is not a permanent move and if he does not like it, he can move in the future when he is on his own time frame and not the company’s.

It is uncomfortable to be uncertain or to have any myriad of feelings about the uncertainty. I try not to let those feelings change how I behave as much as possible. Having a plan always comforts me so I like to have as many of those as possible. Sometimes it feels like it is completely out of your hands, so I focus on the things that I can control, like my reaction to whatever happens. I think of what I should say or do if it is bad news to make whoever is unhappy feel better and what to do if we are celebrating good news. All I can do is control myself and mitigate any fallout for everyone else.
