“Trust your gut.”

It is something that took me a long time to come to terms with. Every time I ignored my instincts, things ended in disaster. Then I would have to deal with the fallout of having thought better, yet having not done it. Regret is so much harder to deal with when you do not do what you think you should.

If I at least do what I think is the best course of action, then I can find solace in having not known enough to make a better decision. I put in such a great deal of thought and deliberation into big decisions that I should know better than to go against what I think I should do.

Even in the heat of the moment, the gut decision usually does not steer me wrong. Even if I do something bad it is at least understandable and usually able to be forgiven as a heat in the moment thing. I do prioritize the right things like safety and I do tend to put others well being before my own. Those are things I can live with. If everyone is safe and the only one harmed is me, then I can deal with that.
