Wow. This is a question. A few things jumped to mind, but I was not sure I wanted to write about them in a public forum in case they may be misconstrued.
I think the biggest thing is probably that I do not get freaked out about traffic police any more. I have settled in and feel fairly confident with my driving. I do not really speed any more as it is true, speeding does not get you anywhere any faster. I am much more relaxed about my driving. For a while, I would be like “Oh, no, a speed trap.” Now I am like, “Hey, hope you are having fun.”
I was also afraid of becoming my mother or my father. Neither of those things happened. I was my own person as a parent. I tried to correct for the things I hated about my childhood. And I tried to correct myself to make up for what my kids experienced in homes before ours. I listened to experts, I sought out different methods, and I really learned into trying to make all the suggestions work. I am a bit bitter about wasting time on some of the ideas, but I am happy that I was open to correction. I was willing to admit I was struggling and I sought out help. All things my parents would not have been able to do. In fact, I would use my mother’s options on my kid situations as a barometer for when I needed to look at something differently. It helped keep me on the path I wanted to be on.
There are some things I do not worry about that I really should, but that is not the question for the day. Those are probably the biggest drops in worry that I have had. I did not turn out to parent like my parents did and I am no longer anxious about traffic police. One large and one minor worry gone!
