The saga continues. The kid messaged about wanting to come home because her health was falling apart. We handled that and gave her resources and reminded her she is still on our insurance and everything.

Then a week later, she emailed me asking to come home and apologizing. Saying that she misses us and loves. That she wanted to come home months ago, but every time she talks about it her birth family shuts her down and guilt her into staying.

Queue me responding to the email promptly, asking for more information and trying to understand what she is hoping to accomplish going forward. Then I get no response for a couple days. Her father messages her to nudge her that I already replied to her email. She says that she has life things to work through and that she will visit us someday.

It was so abruptly the opposite of what she messaged before. I had talked over this situation with my therapist and mentioned that she was still posting things about us in a negative narrative. He scratched his head at that. Then he asked me if I thought she might have split personalities like her sister. It gave me pause because I know what living with her sister is like and this does feel rather familiar.

Originally, I was wondering if she was trying to get us to send money or something because we are not going to do that. We know better than to get into that pipeline. There is also the possibility that she has had her electronics confiscated since emailing me. The email sounded like her.

It is hard to know what to think or believe at this point. I had a plan put together to get her into college for the fall. She could live on campus and have some space from everyone that is trying to pull her in different directions, but she did not respond.

So I threw the plan by the wayside to see if she changes her mind again. She will not tell us where she is or what is happening there. Yet she begs to come home and when we try to set it up, she pulls out. It is a strange, awful situation.

The one silver lining is that there is no other sibling at home this time. We are able to shelve the situation everyone once in a while and move on with our days without someone blowing their top over it. Nobody can tell us what to do in this situation because it is bizarre. So we have to do what we think is best and move forward. For now, we continue working on our own recovery and repairing our lives. It is all we can do.
