Honestly, it would be all the mythology books I read as a kid. I read all sorts of them, Greek, Roman, Norse, Eastern Asia, Egyptian, and Native American. As an adult I have picked up Celtic, Middle Eastern, and a few African mythology books. If anyone has a recommendation for more, I would love to hear it. Myth books are usually anthologies so sometimes they are a collection of a certain area of the world and not a particular historical place.
My number one fantasy destination is still Greece because of how many Greek mythology books I read as a child. It kept me interested throughout my history classes and I always perk up when I hear about Greece on the news.
Reading mythologies always adds such depth to visiting art museums or history museums. So many references to the ancient stories. Making the connections between people of different times through myth is amazing. It connects so many aspects of what we think embodies so many different facets of mankind.
Even now, I write stories with a basis in Greek mythos. I would like to branch out to others someday, but as I am only beginning my writing journey it will probably be a while before I switch unless a very insistent idea comes to me.
