I would have to go with food 3D printers in most homes. They have begun making non-meat products that taste and look like the meat they are masquerading as. I think as 3D printing technology and nutritional technology continues to advance we could see what we saw on Star Trek Enterprise’s food replicator.
Instead of trying to make drugs to help people lose weight, I think we should move the other way and make people eat food that tastes like something they want to eat, but is actually nutritionally sound. That would be the next step to printing a meal. Being able to print a candy bar, taste like a candy bar, but have the nutritional value of a salad.
It would be absolutely incredible. It would completely revolutionize the world. Not only could people have access to adequate nutrition, but you could eat it and not suffer through it by making it taste like something you like. I am not a huge fan of meat, I need it or I will die. I have incredible issues with iron and protein. If I could print an apple that had the nutrition of a steak. Imagine there would no longer be fights with small children about having to finish their dinner.
It is a lofty goal to have it taste like something else, but I do think in 20 years we can have home appliances to replicate foods. If we worked this out it could possibly save our planet in various ways. Less food we need to have transported, move to eliminate animal cruelty, less food would need to be produced. Production would move to making the building blocks of the replicators.
There are so many possibilities.
