As I wrote in yesterday’s post, I experienced the first wave of Covid-19. I was incredibly sick for a long time. Since then, my memory is not as good as it once was. Things are harder to think through than they used to be.

I have used an actual paper day planner to help me keep track of events, appointments, and other information I need to keep track of for years especially with the girls in the house. Now I add things like when movies come out, when festivals are scheduled, and what Broadway shows will be in town. It helps me not miss out on things I might want to do.

I also write down things I need to remember. if the youngest needed new tights by next Tuesday, I would put in a note for next Tuesday that she needs tights. It helps me to keep tabs on things I used to remember easily.

Recently I have started using alarms. It helps me to remember when the laundry needs changed, or when to turn off the sprinkler. Simple things that I used to be able to do.

The most effective habit that has improved my life the most is admitting when there is a problem and finding a solution that works. For about a year, I struggled emotionally with being able to do things that used to be so easy. Now when I realize the problem, I immediately jump in with solutions until I find one that works.

The best habit is to not be so hard on yourself. You do not have to struggle through everything and try to maintain what you once were. I have always been resourceful and on top of things. Admitting that I was struggling allowed me to find ways to become that way again when it became difficult. I may not be able to do these things inherently on my own, but with a few tools to help me I can function like I did before.
