Honestly, no.

I love the concept. We all long for connection and thinking there is someone out there that we are destined to be with is such a relief. It also takes all the responsibility off of you. If you want to be close with someone and have a relationship that works, you need to put in the work.

Humans are so afraid of being alone, that we tend to settle for people that are not good for us. This is why divorce is so common. We overlook real issues, think we can change people, and listen to other people too much to ever find someone that truly complements us.

If soulmates are real, then they never can find each other with the way things actually work in the world. To me, a soulmate would be the only one you could be attracted to. We would not have types or preferences. Reality makes people choose partners on various things like economics, humor, social standing, and looks.

When people try and say a couple are soulmates, I always feel kind of insulted on their behalf. They are doing the work. They are communicating and working on their relationship. You are diminishing their accomplishment. If you want to compliment a couple, tell them you wish you had a relationship like theirs. That you are impressed with them.
