It is a concept, I wish I could follow. I will be large amounts of decluttering this year and trying to focus on what I want from my life going forward. Some things have already gone while others are awaiting a final decision.

Both my partner and I typically amass things. A lot of the clutter has already been minimized as we do not accept gifts on holidays from others any more. Trying to pare down what others feel required to give us so we do not end up with things we did not want in the first place. If pressed for a gift idea, we try and ask for more experiential things instead of material. We are at the age where if we want something in our home, we will get it ourselves.

Sentimental stuff is hard for me to get rid of. Right now I am gathering up all the memory provoking items and once I have them all, I can go through and first get rid of any duplicate keepsakes.

Some days I dream of leaving it all behind and starting over fresh somewhere else. In those cases, I realize that I do need to let go of all the clutter in my life. I also want to get out of the mindset of thinking someday I will use this or do this. I need to set more realistic expectations of myself and let some things go to someone who will appreciate it more.

Minimalism is a dream I am striving for now.
