First picture books would have to be a bunch of Dr. Seuss and “Is Your Mama a Llama?” Those rhyming books stick in your head forever. I also read them to my younger brother a lot.
For a chapter book, it would probably be the Little House on the Prairie series or a Nancy Drew book. Such staples of a young girl’s reading library. The Little House series is so memorable because I grew up along the Oregon Trail, so it was so fun reading about that bit of history. I have visited the places from her books and it is funny to see the places she spent years in the span of a couple of days. Nancy Drew started my whole love of detective stories. She was great. Then they made a ridiculous number of computer games that were based on her books. They were so good! Even that recent supernatural television series was great.
So nostalgic to think back to all the books I read back then. The Boxcar Children were also a fun series, not as memorable as Nancy Drew. I can see the library in my old grade school. The fiction section was one wall of books. The town library was also city hall and there was no full time librarian. You would come in and check books out yourself because there would be nobody there but the bookkeeper for the city. I think I took every single Eye Witness book home at one point or another during a single year.
