I remember being a teenager and my mom and I were renting movies. We were not really finding anything we wanted to watch, but we watched about two movies a week so we were there doing our normal thing. We saw Moulin Rouge on the shelf. Saw the two leads and thought it was weird we had not heard of it.
Next day we put it in the DVD player, I remember we got to the “Like a Virgin” number and we turned and looked at each other in absolute shock about what we were watching.
It kept going and I fully expected to never watch it again. The next day we watched it again to see if we would like it better now that we knew it was a musical. It was much better.
I have been able to watch the Broadway show since being an adult and I took my mom to see it. We still love it after all this time. Always.
I know there have been a lot of movies I thought I would love and turned out hating them. There have been a few other happy surprises, but none like this. I actually finished it thinking I do not like this movie, but gave it another shot and I loved it.
