It used to be NFT and now it is AI. Someone casually mentions it or tries to sell me on something and then throws that in the mix. I immediately stop listening.

It is like when WordPress had an ad for its AI to write posts for you. I am not here to read something a computer algorithm approximates of a person. I want to hear from an actual person.

No matter how bad the human product is, it is still rich in authenticity that I can respect. Having AI butcher something that is supposed to be beautiful like art or prose, is disgusting. And the better AI becomes at pretending to be people is not a good thing. It takes away from our very purpose in life if we have a computer that does everything that we can possibly do. It becomes an entire existential crisis.

I already know kids and adults who use AI for everything. To do their schoolwork, to do their jobs, and I am flabbergasted. You are not learning anything. You are not working. The AI is working and learning, you are training it to replace us. It is sickening.

The fad is beginning to die thankfully. Hopefully it will start to taper off faster as people fight against data centers and the destruction of our natural resources.

John Oliver’s team always does a great job at researching their comedy news segments.
