This question always gets so many people because when they start exercising, they want to do everything because they want results as quickly as possible. For most people who are concerned about their weight or have body image issues, it is all about making a change to your lifestyle rather than adding a whole new task.

Already walk so much in a day, add more distance or time, try to go faster. Want more muscle tone? Look up how to properly lift things and use household items. So many new mothers I know get very muscular arms from carrying their baby all the time.

It is very easy to get in a rut thinking that fitness is not for you. You can think well I cannot afford the gym or equipment. I do not have the time or energy right now.

To have long-term success you need to make simple changes to your daily routine. As your confidence grows and you begin to see those results, you can make more changes or even take it to the next level and join a gym or something.

If a particular movement or physical issue is limiting you, go see a physical therapist. They are not only for sports injuries. I have gone a few times for various injuries, but we always end up working on normal daily movement issues that crop up during the healing process. There really is not much they can do for an injury because you need to heal, but if your knee always bothers you when you walk up the stairs, then see a physical therapist. It will probably take a handful of sessions and you will be given lots of exercises that you can do easily at home. They help adapt the exercises for what you have in your already, like canned food for hand weights.

In my thirties, I learned that I did not stand properly. I felt so awful about myself for weeks after, but I had pain for so long and had already seen a couple physical therapists before this. Nobody had ever noticed that the way I stood was causing some hip issues, which caused a bunch of back pain.

Now that it is all taken care of, I am free to walk as much as I want. I do not tire as easily while on my feet and household chores are not physically bothersome anymore.

Long lasting health benefits only come when you successfully make long lasting changes. Starting out is so incredibly daunting. I suggest beginning small and working your way up. It is so much easier to succeed and think about adding more then failing immediately and giving up.
