The biggest benefits would be how easy it would be to clean. I have a lot of knickknacks on my shelves and lots of shelves for books and things. If I were to get rid of all those things, it would save me so much time on cleaning and there would be so much less to clean. I would have so much more free time, more money, and a much cleaner space in which to live.
I do not think I would ever be able to get rid of all of them. I do have emotional attachments to many of my things. I do plan to pare down my collections this year and free up space and create more focus on the things I do enjoy.
I would not want to live in a smaller space and live minimally like that. I grew up in a very small home with four people and it felt like we were on top of each other all the time. After living in apartment buildings, I know I like to have quiet space to myself. It is nice to have areas in your house you can go to and be alone sometimes. I also like having a larger yard to increase the space between me and my neighbors.
The people who live in tiny houses are so impressive to me, but I cannot live like that. I like to spread out and have room to do projects from time to time without having to forego space to do other things in the meantime.
People who can live the minimalist lifestyle are truly impressive to me.
