I have been to very few professional or amateur concerts. I do not like how loud it is, the mass of bodies, or how drunk everyone gets. I did have a lovely time once at a concert on the lawn at a winery. It was an amazing experience.
I legitimately think going to my kid’s school band concerts was the best. It was so great to watch the kids improve each year. You learn which kids are very passionate and they become such great musicians. In high school, some of the concerts include all the different types of bands and it was phenomenal to watch the jazz band kids prepare their own music for the concerts. They would direct some of the pieces and do solos, the works. It was phenomenal to watch them grow.
I always stayed to watch every group and every kid. Even when they were doing rehearsals for solo competition. The kids went out there and tried. They wanted to do well and it was great to be able to support them. Even if they were terrible. The fact that you sat there listening to them and applauded them means the world to those kids.
For parents who try to avoid it or think its torture, wear some earplugs. I have migraines and I still sit there and listen. School arts programs are already so underfunded. School communities typically ignore the band kids which is awful. They love music. They are not forced to do it. They do it because they love it.
