I learned so many things in high school. It would be hard to pick one. I loved history classes the most. In English class, I learned a lot about story craft. I tried to learn Spanish, which I continued to try throughout college. I took home economics and learned to sew. I had a driver’s education class. I got through calculus. I enjoyed a bunch of environmental science classes.
The student council was supposed to read out the daily announcements. Typically everyone on the council would switch each week throughout the school year. I ended up doing it every single day of school after about a month because we all learned that I was actually quite good at it. I spoke clearly and evenly.
It was requested that I do the announcements every single day, so I did. Even now when I have to make phone calls and whatnot, I am told that I have a very lovely speaking voice. It was a very interesting thing to learn about myself. I was never a singer. I used to be able to do funny voices until a few viral infections in college. But to this day, I receive lots of compliments on my speaking voice.
The hilarious thing is that I am extremely uncomfortable with public speaking and the like, but I am bizarrely good at communicating to the point that people comment and compliment me on it.
