This is such a silly question. I have had dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and fish as pets. They were all awesome in their own way. What makes a great pet is mostly about your lifestyle and what animal fits within it.

I will say having pet rats was hard on me because they do not live very long, especially compared to all the other animals I have kept over the years. However, they are so smart and clever. They really keep you on your toes and they can be very cuddly.

Pets have their own personalities even inside of what species they are. Some are cuddly, some are not. I have had a range of personalities in my pets and I respect them all. There is no one size fits all when it comes to pets.

The worst pets are pets that should not be in your home. People who try to turn wild animals into pets scare me. Big cats for example. The amount of food they need and territory to roam are incredible. Go look at them in an accredited zoo. It also encourages poaching and other horrible things that happen to animals in the wild. There are so many domesticated animals that have been neglected and tossed aside by humanity that we really do not need to go look for wild ones to add to the mess we have made.

If you want to have a wildlife sanctuary then do it if you have the property, but it should be local wildlife. And you should not be trying to domesticate them. A wildlife sanctuary should be maintaining the wildlife meaning they stay wild. You are providing a space where they can live without threat from humans.
