I would probably choose driving a car. Honestly, it is nice to drive through the country and see what there is to see. You can stop and eat at new places, stop at landmarks, and enjoy the change in landscape.

I would only take an airplane if I needed to be across the country in a hurry, but I would not really call that a cross-country trip. More like just a trip to whatever location I land at.

The US does not have the infrastructure to make train or bus travel appealing to go such a long distance. I would want to stop and eat at designated locations to really spend time enjoying the trip. If I sleep on the way, I miss the scenery.

Biking would be really cool, but I am not built for that. After the first day, I would need a week to recuperate from the pain I caused myself. It would be neat though and a great reason to stay off the highways.

I have driven halfway across the country and back. It was really amazing to see all the historic sites along the way and I stopped at several National Parks. We took one route there and a different route back. It was truly an incredible experience.
