There are a few things that I do that enable me to shut out the world and fully immerse myself in what I am doing.
One is video gaming, especially an RPG. Video games are great immersive experiences where you do not have anything to clean up afterward. Some of the best stories I have ever heard were told through video games.
Reading. I love a good book. I tend to read murder mysteries and it is easy to get lost in the story as the heroes close in on the answers to all the books questions. It is very exciting.
A good conversation. Someone I have not seen for a long time or someone I find incredibly interesting. It is so very easy to get lost talking to people and enjoying an old fashioned in person conversation.
On occasion I can get lost in a craft project. If I am putting together a photo book, or at a stage where I enjoy the process more than the other parts. Like painting in broad strokes before the detailing needs to happen. There is that moment of zen when you are making something with your hands where it takes all your focus, but not in an exhausting way, rather a reinvigorating way when you find a flow.
Recently I started writing again. Fiction writing is so fun and so much easier for me than writing things based on my life. That is emotionally draining. Fiction allows my brain to create unhindered and the act of putting it into words takes up all my faculties and I let it take over. My brain is free to focus on my imagination and it is such a fun thing to lose myself in.
