Originally I was going to say social media, but then I thought about it some more and decided I would like to go back to when cell phones were just portable phones and not computers. Being expected to bring up apps or qr codes wherever you go seems ridiculous. I should not need a cell phone to see a menu or interact with a display at a museum.
We would not have so many struggles with children and cell phones if they were just phones. Kids do not need to be on the internet all the time, honestly nobody does.
Social media only really becomes a problem for people who are unable to unplug themselves from it. If we did not have it on our phones, then you could only check it when you are on a computer.
It has just become a basic assumption that we should bring up our phones for every little thing. I miss having an actual camera and not a phone which is now mining my photos for me and creating memories and reminding me of things I might not want to remember right now.
I wish for the days when I used my phone for calling people and texting when trying to meet up with someone. It used to cost money per text, so you would actually have to think about what you were sending.
The expectation to be plugged in all the time has already gotten old. I want to be free to live without being connected everywhere.
