If you are ever hurting for an activity to do with your kids, try a gem or rock show. We spent hours at a show over spring break. The girls loved it. They looked at stone beads for jewelry making, they checked out the jewelry artisans and they just plain loved looking at rocks.
There was a small fee to get in, but the tickets doubled as raffle tickets. You can wander around and talk to people all about their passions about rocks. The people are pretty friendly and it is very easy to find someone wanting to answer all your questions.
There are items as low as $1 and upwards to a thousand. Rocks come in so many colors. Some are glittery. Some are shiny. Some are just beautiful to look at. Some have really cool stories, like the pieces of meteorite we found. There were also some amber and fossils to check out.
It is amazing what kind of things people can make from rocks. We saw furniture, lamps, headbands, and of course pet rocks.
We all had a good time. The kids are now home with their treasures and their memories of our trip to the rock show.
